Failure story? But not really !!!

This is a failure story of me, but , may not be really !

I prepared for IIT JEE, i failed.

Broken cup of life ?

But i later realized, Preparing for IITs are a waste of time, because of various reasons.

  1. globally they don’t hold a great rank
  2. preparing for IITs are so tough and time consuming
  3. after IITs what is the payscale ?
  4. brand value of your degree forever?
  5. starting a startup?

What did I do?

I was one of the IIT aspirants, toiled , and failed get into one of them. You can tell that since I failed to get into IITs , I am jealous of those who got into IITs.

I failed to get into IITs , sure !

But did it really affect me? NO !

Or did I end up not getting paid as much as an IITian? NO !

So it’s okay, you can be a non-IITian or BITsian and still get there. But it could be a little late ! That’s okay !

I know a lot of my friends that did not go to IITs, sat with me in the same class during our undergrad, but now doing as good ! Of course, they’re 9 pointers in my college.

Life gives you multiple chances to get good at something. These friends of mine utilized during my undergrad.

What happened to me?

As I mentioned earlier, I tried getting into IITs, I could not.

After my Master’s when I was working in the US — IITians worked with me at the same job-level as mine, we were almost the same age.

We both were earning almost the same salaries.

Cups full of life !

What can you do?

I went to the US, I did my Masters in MIS in University of Arizona (top ranked for MIS in US). Believe me ..

Getting into Top ranked universities in US is easier than cracking IIT JEE examinations. And Top ranked universities is US = Globally Top ranked.

QS World rankings of IITs: In the 2019, IIT Bombay ranked highest at 162, followed by IIT Delhi (172), IIT Madras (264), IIT Kanpur (283), IIT Kharagpur (295), IIT Roorkee (381) and IIT Guwahati (472) (Source: Wiki)

University of Arizona ranking: 273.

UofA has a better ranking than half of IITs, and it’s much easier getting into it.

IITs globally don’t hold a great rank, and preparing for IITs are so tough and time consuming.

Be like me, it is okay to be mediocre.

If you can afford US universities crack them Or keep improving yourself everyday in your niche field. And life will again give you an opportunity to grab a big ladder in your life.

After IITs what is the payscale ?

You might hear skyrocketing figures such as INR 1.2crores or 1.5crores. Those jobs are based in US.

  1. that is not the salary, its a package. (salary + stocks + joining bonus etc)
  2. converting INR 1.5crores to US dollars might make it $200k in which salary could be around $120k which is a pretty normal pay in the US.

After you do your Master’s also you can get the same pay if you’re good with your DS and algorithms.

Brand value of your degree forever?

Your degree will get you a step in the door, not the job

You might get an interview call from your college’s brand value. But it won't get you a job.

To get into a job you need to have domain expertise in the area of your job application. Keep improving at it !

Starting a startup?

Sure, IITs will add value to your degree. VCs might respect you a bit more than the students from the other colleges.

Concluding …

IITs are prestigious and they make your career a little bit faster when compared to the other candidates.

But there are mediocre people like me, who did not go to IITs , improved slowly day-by-day and got on par with the IITians when it came to doing a job.

So IIT JEE is a waste of time and effort, and a bit overrated. But I love those who cracked the JEE, they’re some of the best minds !

Enjoy your life, improve daily !
